Apparel, Textiles, and Retail Merchandising in China

China has become the major exporter of textile and apparel products to the World market.  In 2006, China's exports of textile and apparel products to the U.S. market reached 22 billion dollars.  This program allows students to witness the development of the textile and apparel industry in China by visiting factories in China and interacting with apparel design staff from the Chinese textile and apparel industry.

Globalization is part of the nature of the retail industry.  A large proportion of merchandise sold in the U.S. market is from other countries.  At the same time, U.S. merchandise is widely available in countries other than the U.S..  This program will provide students with a first-hand experience to witness the culture difference and how it impacts the retail industry and will tremendously enhance students' understanding of the retail industry.
