Semester exchange at Griffith University, Queensland College of Art

This exchange program is designed around photography and is best suited for Photography (Visual Communications and Fine Arts) majors. Students participating in this program spend one semester at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art (QCA) in Brisbane, Australia's third largest city. QCA was established in 1881 and are the state’s oldest and premier visual arts training institution. It is a college focused on creative, studio-based activity, while drawing on the resources of Griffith University, a large innovative institution. QCA is remarkable in terms of its range of programs and staff expertise. It is located in a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city. 1st Semester: February-June
2nd Semester: July-November

Eligibility and selection process
This program is for undergraduate photography (Viscom or Fine Arts) majors who possess a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students should have some photography coursework completed prior to applying for this exchange program. Visit Education Abroad application to apply.

Courses and credits
QCA boasts small classes with a strong emphasis on individual attention. Full-time coursework in photo illustration, photographic art and photojournalism. Additional course details can be found on the QCA website. Interested students should consult with Terry Eiler (740-593-4895) the faculty coordinator, for further academic information.

Living arrangements
Griffith University assists students in locating available places in shared apartments or houses, generally with Australian students. No on-campus housing is available. Students can easily navigate Brisbane by public transport, including train, bus, and ferry.

Travel documents

US Citizens:

  • Passports: All US citizens must have a valid passport for international travel. Visit Passport and visa information for application details.
  • Visas: All US citizens will need a student visa for the duration of their program. You will need a passport when applying for a visa, please apply for your passport when you apply to the program. General information is available at the Australian Embassy; your program coordinator will provide details on applying for a visa.

Non-US Citizens:

  • We recommend you speak with an advisor in International Faculty and Student Services before you commit to any program.
  • If you plan to return to the US after your program, you must contact International Faculty and Student Services to verify that you will be eligible to re-enter the country. All international students holding a non-immigrant visa MUST visit International Faculty and Student Services to receive necessary signatures 4 to 6 weeks before your departure.
  • Host country visas: You may need a visa or other travel document for travel to this country, visit the Australian Embassy for more information. If you will travel through another country to reach this destination, you may need a transit visa for this stop-over. You can find more information from the embassy of the country you are traveling through; embassy websites are listed at http://www.embassiesabroad.com/.

Billed by Ohio University:

• Tuition: 1.5 quarters of OU tuition
• Administrative Fee: $150

Out-of-pocket expenses:

• Passport and photos: $110
• International Student ID Card (ISIC): $22
• Roundtrip Airfare: $1500-2000
• Visa: $294
• Room & board (per month): $600
• Textbooks, film and supplies: $1100
• Overseas health coverage: $125
• Incidentals (per month): $200

Incidentals include laundry, phone, local transportation, entertainment, etc.

Cost is subject to change. Financial aid may be applied to program costs; further information available from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
