Students who study at Chubu University will enjoy learning Japanese in a quiet, comfortable setting in a residential suburb of Japan’s third largest city, Nagoya.
The Japanese Study Abroad Program at Chubu University offers courses in Japanese to students at all proficiency levels. Students also take field trips and excursions during their stay.
Qualified extended-stay students who successfully complete one quarter of full-time Japanese study in the fall may be eligible for internship opportunities and tutorial programs in Engineering, the Natural Sciences, and Humanities during Winter and Spring Quarters.

Eligibility and Selection Process
Applicants must have at least one year of college Japanese or the equivalent and be in good academic standing.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted during Winter Quarter and orientation begins in the spring to prepare students for the program. Visit Education Abroad Application to apply. Specific deadlines can be found online.
Living Arrangements
Students will live in double-occupancy rooms in a dormitory on the Chubu University Campus. Linens will be provided, and breakfasts and dinners are provided in the dorm cafeteria during the week. Students will receive a stipend to pay for lunches and weekend meals during Fall Quarter.
Courses and Credits
Students can earn up to 16 credit hours from the following courses:
• JAPN 211,212,213: Intermediate Japanese
• JAPN 311,312,313: Advanced Japanese
• JAPN 411,412,413: Fourth Year Japanese
• JAPN 251: Japanese Language and Culture
Cost*
Billed by Ohio University:
• Tuition: up to 16 credits of OU tuition
• Program Fee: $4670
• Administrative Fee: $150
The program fee covers room, board, books, and airfare.
Out-of-Pocket Expenses:
• Passport and Photos: $110
• Incidentals: $1500
