Ever wondered what the view's like from the top of the Eiffel Tower?
Fulfill a Gen Ed requirement while enjoying the view of the cultural capital of Europe during one of the most breathtaking holiday seasons of the year, no knowledge of the French language required!
You could be heading to the French capital this winter break to explore and examine the key structures and art forms of the last fifteen centuries as they are presented in the City of Lights. Your week starts with a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral as it compares architecturally with the Arab museum further down the River Seine, then a tour of the Marais neighborhood where you'll be living and the first of many Paris café dinners. Just three blocks from the center of Paris, the Marais district is home to the modern Pompidou Center and Victor Hugo's Place de Vosges.
You're free to drop in on a runway show at Galleries LaFayette or meet fellow Bobcats under the IM Pei pyramid at the Louvre to survey master artwork housed in one of the world's greatest art repositories. From the home of the Mona Lisa, head up the Rue de Rivoli to tour the art-historic venue of the Phantom of the Opera's Opera Garnier, climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, or tour St. Germaine district and its renown bakeries and chocolate boutiques – complete tour included in this program- all in the direction of the Versailles.
The palace, built by Louis XIV and occupied by Marie Antoinette, is another classroom for architectural wonders, after which you can soak in the haute ways of the Champs Elysees, pass through the Tuilleries Gardens and over the Pont Neuf to observe Rodin's original The Thinker at the artist's majestic home, Degas' ballet paintings in the D'Orsay museum, and Napolean's iconic tomb at Hotel Les Invalides.
You'll have free time to visit the Paris neighborhood of Montmartre, where you can discover the bohemian lives of Picasso, Degas, Renoir and Van Gogh. Explore Parisienne shops and cafes, hopping on and off the Metro subway at your leisure, taking in cultural venues on nearly every corner. Bird, flower, and flea markets add to the Parisienne learning experience, as well as a visit to Jim Morrison's grave or a nearby stop at the Carnivale Museum to better understand the French and their revolutionary ways.

Art 1100 Seeing and Knowing the Visual Arts (3 credits), a Tier II General Education fullfillment
Art 3000J Criticism in the Visual Arts (3 credits), a Tier I Junior Composition General Education fulfillment.
Eligibility and selection process
This program is open to all Ohio University students in good academic standing. All majors are welcome. Most students who attend are, in fact, not art or art history majors.
This program is also open to non-OHIO students.
Students who have a judicial record and will be on probation for a judicial offense at any point during the program may petition to study abroad. Click here to read the entire judicial policy.
All participants will be required to attend mandatory orientation sessions during fall semester.
Application deadline
IMPORTANT: applications will be reviewed as they are received and students offered a place on the program. Therefore early application is recommended as all spaces may already be filled by the final deadline of September 28, 2012.
Accommodation
Students will share double rooms in the highly rated Hotel Beaubourg in the Marais district of central Paris. Located in the quiet Rue Simon le Franc the tastefully appointed rooms include free wi-fi, breakfast croissants and hot chocolate in the grotto, and access to the metro just outside your front door.
