Billing, Registration, and Credit Transfer
Click below to view information for your student's program type:
Ohio University Study Abroad Programs
Billing At the time of nomination, your student will receive a student budget worksheet outlining the fees billed by Ohio University and the out-of-pocket costs. Tuition, program fee, and study abroad administrative fee will be billed to your student's account.
Registration The Office of Education Abroad (OEA) will register your student for their study abroad courses. Your student's faculty director will provide them with a Course Request Form listing courses currently available for their program. If your student wishes to take a class not listed on the form, such as an independent study, they must request a “Request for Unscheduled Classes” form from their faculty director. The instructor of record must sign the form. Return this to the OEA, and we will register your student for the additional course(s). Please note that they cannot use a traditional pink slip for study abroad courses.
OEA will register all participants for STDY XXXX (Study in (name of country)), a non-credit bearing course, and each quarter your student will be studying abroad. This course will appear on your transcript, showing future employers and graduate schools that they studied abroad.
Academic Credit and Grades Ohio University study abroad courses are treated the same as classes on campus. All grades will be posted on your student's DARS, on their transcript, and be reflected in their GPA.
Ohio University Exchange Programs
Billing The program coordinator will provide your student with an expense estimate outlining the fees billed by Ohio University and the out-of-pocket costs. Tuition and the exchange administrative fee will be billed to your student account. NOTE: Any charges by host institution or university, including library fines, printing charges, and room damage, can be applied to your university student account.
Registration OEA will register your student for STDY 000 or STDY 900 (Foreign Study) upon receipt of their completed Foreign Study Checklist (see below) each quarter they will be studying abroad. Registration for STDY 000/900 ensures their continued status as a current Ohio University student, allows financial aid and scholarships to be disbursed, and allows their RAC and pre-registration time to be automatically generated.
Academic Credit and Grades Before they leave, they must submit a completed Foreign Study Checklist to the OEA. This checklist ensures they have selected courses that will transfer back to Ohio University and apply to their university degree, and that they have received approval for these courses from their academic adviser and college of enrollment. If your student has financial aid, the use of financial aid for program costs will also be approved.
Undergraduates will receive transfer credit for courses awarded the equivalent of a ‘C’ letter grade or above; graduate students must receive a ‘B’ letter grade or above for transfer. Transcripts must be sent to the OEA. Please keep records of their overseas coursework including syllabi, course descriptions, reading lists, exams, essays, and papers. These may be needed to determine the appropriate OU credit.
Ohio International Consortium (OIC), Affiliate, and Non-Ohio University-Sponsored Programs
Billing In most cases, your student will pay your study abroad program fee directly to their program provider according to their payment schedule (exceptions apply – contact the OEA to find out if they will be billed by their provider or by Ohio University). They will not be billed for tuition at Ohio University. They will be assessed a study abroad administrative fee of $150.00 per program per year.
Registration OEA will register them for STDY 000 or STDY 900 (Foreign Study) upon receipt of their Foreign Study Checklist each quarter they will be studying abroad. Registration for STDY 000/900 ensures their continued status as a current Ohio University student, allows financial aid and scholarships to be disbursed, and allows their RAC and pre-registration time to be automatically generated.
