Advising about education abroad

Study abroad fits into almost any degree program and helps to enhance students’ experiences as they prepare for careers and further study. Here is a brief overview of study abroad at OU that may help you answer students questions and help them plan.

• Study Abroad programs offer OU credit and are led by OU directors. Many of OU’s study abroad programs are not language-based, but meet general degree requirements or specific majors.

• Many programs are open to students from all majors and can fulfill degree, elective, or language requirements.
• Several programs offer Tier II and Tier III/Capstone courses.
• Several programs are taught in English in both English-speaking and other countries.
• The Ohio-Leipzig European Center in Leipzig, Germany does not require any previous language courses and is led by faculty from various departments, offering students a wide range of courses with a different academic emphasis every program.
• Several programs are taught in English in a variety of countries.

• Ohio University’s exchange programs provide an even larger selection of opportunities.

• On our institutional exchanges with University of Swansea, Wales; University of South Australia, University of Newcastle, Australia; and Hong Kong Baptist University, students may choose from a full curriculum of courses.
• OU also has discipline-specific and language-specific exchange programs with universities in the following countries: Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, and Spain.

• Students may also participate in programs through other institutions.
