Welcome Parents!

The Office of Education Abroad (OEA) looks forward to providing information and support for students and their parents before, during, and after an international experience. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions.

The following pages provide information for you for different stages of your student's travels.

Keeping In Touch With Your Student

There are many ways to keep in touch with your student while they are abroad. Learn about the different types of calling cards, or contacting them through the internet with email and Skype.

Supporting Your Student
Traveling abroad can put a lot of stress on your student, especially when dealing with culture shock. There are many ways you can help your student work through these stressful times. Read through the summary of what culture shock is and become familiar with ways you can help your student.

Health and Safety Concerns

Your student’s health and safety are of great importance while they are abroad. The OEA takes many steps to ensure your student's safety while abroad. Learn about HTH student health insurance and what the Office of Education Abroad does to keep your student safe.

Costs, Financial Aid, and Scholarships
Learn about where to find cost information, and how to help receive funding for your student's international travels.

Billing, Registration, and Credit Transfer

Billing and registration may vary depending on what type of program your student is participating in. Learn about Ohio University study abroad programs, exchange programs, and Non-Ohio University programs here.

"As a parent of a college or college-bound student, you may find yourself in the role of helping your child think through the many questions and issues they will face in making this often life-changing decision.
Though decisions about when, where, and what to study overseas are usually made by students themselves, there are many supporting roles for parents to play to help their child in deciding whether to go. Choosing a program, preparing for departure, ensuring a rewarding experience while abroad, and adjusting to life back at home are areas where a parent's input is valuable."
