Scotland Photography Field School, Edinburgh


This thirty day summer field school centered in Edinburgh, Scotland is offered by the School of Visual Communication. This is an intense practical education program offering hands-on work in documentary photography, the picture story and the tools of color photojournalism. You gain the opportunity to work as a visual reporter in a study-abroad field school format. Supervised field work offers excellent training for photographers looking to improve their photo-essay skills.

A 10:1 student-faculty ratio offers exceptional feedback and photographic critique blending academic education with practical photojournalism experience.

July 15 - August 16, 2013

Eligibility and selection process
This program is designed for intermediate VisCom and Art Photography majors. Other students are accepted by portfolio and faculty recommendations.
Students who have a judicial record and will be on probation for a judicial offense at any point during the program may petition to study abroad. Click here to read the entire judicial policy.

Living arrangements
Students will live in self-catering flats at a university in Edinburgh.

Courses and credits
Successful completion of the program will earn fifteen hours of OHIO credit (graduate or undergraduate). Courses offered include:

Requesting accommodation for disabilities

Some countries also require a visa to legally enter and reside in the country. Entry and exit requirements for this country can be found at http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/travel_1744.html.  US citizens won’t need a visa to enter the country for the length of this program. You may need to show sufficient funds to support yourself while in-country.  Please also note that visa requirements may vary if you plan to stay in the country longer than the program dates or travel to other countries during or after the program.  Please familiarize yourself with these recommendations and requirements prior to applying to a program.
