| The summer Chinese Language and Culture program provides an opportunity for total immersion into the language while learning about the culture at first hand. Students will be exposed to the real China, discovering the history, culture, philosophy, politics, and religion while also interacting on a daily basis with the local Chinese. This program provides everything that the Ohio University based Chinese language courses can offer and more, expanding your knowledge and understanding of this very different and important area of the world. Chinese Language and Culture in Beijing completes the foreign language requirement for the College of Arts & Sciences. |

Eligibility and selection process
Students must have completed the 111-113 Chinese language series, have a minimum 3.0 GPA (students with a GPA of less than 3.0 will be considered if they have excelled in Chinese language courses).
Students on judicial probation at the start of the study abroad program will not be allowed to participate; there is an appeal process for those with B-level violations. Click here to read the entire judicial policy.
Living arrangements
OHIO students will live alongside international students from around the world in dorms on the campus of Beijing Language and Culture University in the ‘academic district’ of Beijing. There are several student cafeterias on campus and numerous small, inexpensive restaurants around campus for students to dine in.
Excursions
Students will visit the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, and the historic city of Xi’an, home of the Terracotta Army.
Courses and credits:
Chinese 211 Intermediate Chinese 1 (4 credit hours)
Chinese 212 Intermediate Chinese 2 (4 credit hours)
Chinese 213 Intermediate Chinese 3 (4 credit hours)
Students will be required to enroll in CHIN 310/510, Field Studies in China, during spring quarter 2012. This is a 2 credit orientation course to prepare for studying in a different culture and for background knowledge about China.
