Students will be exposed to the real China, discovering the history, culture, philosophy, politics, and religion while also interacting on a daily basis with the local Chinese. This program provides everything that the Ohio University based Chinese language courses can offer and more, expanding your knowledge and understanding of this very different and important area of the world. (participants fly out on June 24 and return on August 11, 2013)

Eligibility and selection process
Students must have completed the 1110-1120 Chinese language series, have a minimum 3.0 GPA (students with a GPA of less than 3.0 will be considered if they have excelled in Chinese language courses).
Students who have a judicial record and will be on probation for a judicial offense at any point during the program may petition to study abroad. Click here to read the entire judicial policy.
Living arrangements
OHIO students will live alongside international students from around the world in dorms on the campus of Beijing Language and Culture University in the ‘academic district’ of Beijing. There are several student cafeterias on campus and numerous small, inexpensive restaurants around campus for students to dine in.
Excursions
Students will visit the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, and the Forbidden Palace.
Courses and credits:
Chinese 2110 Intermediate Chinese 1 (4 credit hours)
Chinese 2120 Intermediate Chinese 2 (4 credit hours)
Students will be required to enroll in CHIN 3100 Preparation for Study in China, during spring semester 2013. This is a 2 credit orientation course to prepare for studying in a different culture and for background knowledge about China.

Requesting accommodation for disabilities
If you plan to participate in an Ohio University-sponsored study abroad program and wish to request accommodation, you should contact the Office of Disability Services (ODS) to schedule an appointment to complete an Education Abroad Disability Accommodation Request Form. We recommend you do this as early as possible to allow sufficient time to determine what accommodations may be made for this program.
Entry and exit requirements
U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport when traveling outside of the United States. If you plan to study or travel abroad in the next year, apply for your passport now: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html.

US citizens will need a visa or other special documents to enter the country for the length of this program. You may need to show sufficient funds to support yourself while in-country. Please also note that visa requirements may vary if you plan to stay in the country longer than the program dates or travel to other countries during or after the program.
