Department of Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education provides a wide range of programs to support the interests of prospective and practicing professionals at the undergraduate, graduate and Doctoral levels.

At the undergraduate level we offer programs of study in Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent-to-Young-Adult Education, Special Education/Intervention Specialist and Multi-Age Education.

At the graduate level we offer programs of study in Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent-to-Young-Adult Education, Intervention Specialist [Mild to Moderate Educational Needs; Mild to Intensive Educational Needs], Early Childhood Intervention Specialist, Reading Education, and Curriculum & Instruction.

At the doctoral level we offer programs of study in Curriculum & Instruction, Social Studies Education, Mathematics Education, and Science Education.

A signature feature of the department is its partnership relationships. These include partnerships with the University laboratory school, the Child Development Center; with local schools, as coordinated by the Center for PDS Partnerships; with The Patton College of Education, such as The Edward Stevens Center for the Study and Development of Literacy and Language; and with regional organizations including the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools (CORAS) and The Southeast Ohio Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science (SEOCEMS), and the Southeast Ohio Teacher Development Collaborative (SEOTDC).  These partnerships provide significant opportunities for field experiences, professional internships, and practicums. We also offer Teacher candidates The Connavino Honors Program in Education.
