I am a third-year Environmental Geography major pursuing a minor in World Religions and an Environmental Studies Certificate.  I have moved around a bit, but considers myself an Ohio girl. My passion for environmental issues stems from a lifelong love of the outdoors, and a more recent concern for social justice issues. Outside of academics, I work on watershed quality issues as a Voinovich Undergraduate Research Scholar, sing and play fiddle with local folk band the Rustbelt Rag, and enjoy growing, cooking, and fermenting food. I hope to someday find a way to make a living exploring and protecting our natural resources.

I am a second year graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Studies with a focus on international sustainability and communication. I am funded by the U.S. Forest Service this year to carry out thesis research pertaining to urban sustainability, specifically urban composting. After a summer spent in Scotland studying sustainable development and conducting thesis research, I feel energized and inspired to continue challenging social norms during my second year living at the Ecohouse.

While earning my undergraduate degree in Conservation Science at Muskingum University, I became an active voice for environmental issues in my community as Miss Southeastern Ohio 2008 and continue to do so as Miss Muskingum Valley 2011. I cherish the opportunity to fuse my personal and professional interests, and I am excited to continue expanding my knowledge about green living while sharing my experiences with the community and students around the state.

What I like about living at the Eco-House is living around technology that can used to help the environment rather than add to its pollution. To say that I've actually lived in a house with solar powered systems and all the other technology that very few people have or even think about, is something to brag about.

What I like best is learning how to live sustainably by growing my own food , planting trees, composting, recycling and living with people who are all concerned about being sustainable has and will continue to be a wonderful learning experience.

I am not sure of my immediate future after graduation but eventually I do plan on teaching and getting my masters in education at Ohio State University.  I love to read in my free time, always non-fiction and especially about the environment/environmental toxins, biographies and history. I love documentaries and  spend hours on You Tube (when I can).

What I have learned is that it is possible live sustainable where ever you are. We can all do a little here and there and collectively the results can be impressive in waste reduction. You do not have to take extreme measures or sacrifices, say for instance going “off the grid!” To show you care about the environment. You can still own a car and be concerned about carbon emissions but it all depends on what are "you “doing right now to offset your pollution with reducing, reusing and recycling. Composting is something I have wanted to but never did so learning how to compost at the Eco-House has been a specific learning tool that I can use for the rest of my life.
