Make it an early SUMMER START at OHIO this summer!
July 1 - August 17, 2013
Summer Start Freshman Experience is an innovative program designed for newly admitted Ohio University freshmen to help you get a head start on your Ohio University studies.
Open to the entire freshman Fall 2013 class, Summer Start in Athens is a fully integrated program offering a residential, credit-bearing curriculum coupled with a full range of student services designed to address the specific needs of first-year students. It's an ideal opportunity for you to gain the confidence you need to succeed at OHIO.
OHIO offers flexibility. Choose to attend online or on campus. You will:
- Attend Bobcat Student Orientation: During this day-long session before the second session begins, on campus participants will receive advising, complete placement testing, register for classes, tour campus, and much more.
- Opt to move in on Friday evening following orientation. Relax! Take your time and enjoy an evening picnic on the green for you and your family.
- Register for 1-3 classes. On-campus students are required to take UC 1900 – Learning Community Seminar and may also register for tier requirements, core requirements, major requirements, or classes of special interest.
- Live on-campus in a residence hall. Summer Start Freshman participants will be grouped together in Shively or Tiffin Halls and will have plenty of opportunities to mix with continuing Ohio University students or, do you live near campus? Consider the option to enroll in the program without completing a Summer housing contract. This option is only for Summer Start Freshman participants who live within commuting distance (50 miles).
- Participate in activities! During Summer Start there are a large variety of educationally supportive and extracurricular activities outside the classroom.
- Access financial aid, if you are eligible. Financial aid may cover some of the expenses of the Summer Start Freshman Experience Program. To apply for financial aid, you must complete a 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Jump ahead of the rest of the 2013 class of freshmen--attend the Summer Start Freshman Experience Program. This means you will register for fall classes before the majority of incoming freshmen.

Only freshman students who have already been admitted to Ohio University for Fall 2013 are eligible to participate in the Summer Start Freshman Experience.
