Lorrie Thompson completed her BSN through eLearning OHIO while maintaining a full-time nursing job and without interrupting her hectic day-to-day life.
Thompson first heard about the partnership between Columbus State, close to her home of Columbus, and Ohio University through the local news. After learning she could complete her BSN online, she decided to look into the program. She immediately knew the program was for her. "(Online classes) are much more user-friendly and easier to navigate than you would think," says Thompson. "The first time I went to college I didn't even own a computer! This time around, I did it all on a computer."
Online classes allowed Thompson to fit school into her life without disrupting her hectic schedule. "Because of the flexibility and the ability to work on my assignments independently, I have been able to maintain an excellent GPA. I think that would have been much harder if I were restricted to rigid schedules and deadlines since my career is so demanding," says Thompson. She was amazed that she was able to study and turn in her assignments while she was at the campground last summer.
"I truly believe that I wouldn't have been able to obtain my BSN with any other program. There were no "cons" to the program; it opened an educational opportunity to me that no other school could" says Thompson. Thompson graduated with her BSN in Fall 2011 through eLearning OHIO.
Thompson currently works full-time as Director of Nursing at a dialysis facility in Columbus that provides services to 136 patients as well as to a local hospital. She also serves as President Elect for her local chapter of the American Nephrology Nurses Associates. In her spare time, Thompson enjoys camping, hiking, reading, painting and spending time with her family.
