Helping Students Transition to Semesters
Distance Learning
Several distance learning options are available to help students fit additional classes into their schedules and optimize enrollments each quarter before semesters begin. These options include term-based online classes, independent study online and correspondence classes, or course credit by exam. Each of these options has pros and cons to consider, but each can be beneficial to help fit additional classes into a busy schedule.
Summer Sessions
The semester system begins with Fall 2012. That means that there are two quarter-based summer sessions remaining to help students fulfill degree requirements before semesters start. Summer is the perfect time for students to take up to 20 hours of additional course work from any OHIO campus, from home, while studying abroad or working part-time. Students can take any combination of classes from any campus or online. A wide selection of options is available. More information about this opportunity is available at www.ohio.edu/summer.
Winter Intersession
Winter Intersession can be considered a 5th “quarter” enrollment opportunity. While students comprehensive fees do not include courses scheduled in this additional “quarter”, it can provide the additional time frame that some students need to squeeze in one or two more classes required for graduation. A selection of approximately 50 popular tier 2 and 3 requirements are offered primarily online. Winter Intersession in December 2011 will be the last opportunity to take advantage of this option. More information about this opportunity is available at www.ohio.edu/winter.
| Through these alternative sessions and delivery options, many more students will be able to fulfill all graduation requirements or complete sequence or key course requirements before the start of the semester system. Encourage your students to make use of these opportunities before the semester system begins. |
