Freshman Scholarships

Access Excellence Scholarship - Full Tuition less any eligilble OCOG and Pell

  • Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
    • Minimum 3.7 overall GPA
    • Minimum 26 ACT
    • Top 10% of high school graduating class

OVAC Scholar Athlete - One Half Tuition less any eligible OCOG and Pell that exceeds the cost of tuition

  • Chosen as OVAC scholar athlete Junior or Senior year of High School. with a minimum final a.g.p.a. of 3.3 and class rank in top 20% of high school graduating class
  • Minimum ACT of 23

Access Achievement Scholarship - One Half Tuition less any eligible OCOG and Pell that exceeds the cost of tuition

  • Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
    • Minimum 3.5 overall GPA
    • Minimum 24 ACT
    • Top 20% of high school graduating class

Access Merit Scholarship- One Half Tuition less any eligible OCOG and Pell that exceeds the cost of tuition

  • Minority citizen of the United States entering O.U. Eastern Campus as a new - recent high school graduate.
  • Recommended minimum of 3.0 a.g.p.a. in high school.
  • Leadership or involvement in high school or community activities/organizations.

Non-Traditional - $1500 a year

  • Be at least twenty-five years old.
  • Enroll part-time or full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Ohio University Eastern Campus.
    • $1500 full-time, $1200 3/4 time, $900 1/2 time

John D. and Margaret Kirk - $1000 a year (approximate)

  • Graduate of a high school in the Barnesville School District with a minimum 3.4 a.g.p.a.
  • Financial need.

Access Leadership Scholarship - $1500 a year

  • Applicants must meet 2 of the following 3:
    • Minimum 3.3 overall GPA
    • Minimum 22 ACT
    • Top 25% of high school graduating class

Project Best Scholarship - $1000 a year

  • Scholarship Application and Project Best Application required.

  • Enables any employee, or the spouse or child of an employee of a participating contractor or trade union, entering an Associate or Bachelor Degree Program, to apply.
  • Recommended minimums: 3.0 a.g.p.a. and 20 ACT.

Donald Eugene Kuri Memorial Scholarship - $1000 a year (approximate)

  • Bellaire High School graduate
  • Minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a.

Carroll Family Scholarship - $1000 a year (approximate)

  • Top 40% of high school class
  • Financial need and community service given consideration

Roger Sowers Memorial Scholarship - $1000 a year (approximate)

  • Barnesville High School graduate with a minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a. majoring in Education.
  • Financial need.

Gordie Longshaw Scholarship - $1000 a year (approximate)

  • Graduate of Bridgeport High School majoring in Education.
  • Financial need.

Thomas and Virginia Helms for Elementary Education Scholarship - $800 a year (approximate)

  • Education major with a minimum of 3.0 a.g.p.a.

Kerr Memorial Scholarship- $800 a year (approximate)

  • Undergraduate pursuing a major in education or business administration.
  • Must be Bellaire, St. Clairsville, or Shadyside High School graduate.
  • Recommended minimums: 3.0 a.g.p.a. and 20 ACT for high school applicants.

John and Marcelyn Shannon Scholarship - $750 a year (approximate)

  • Recipient must be an incoming freshman in top 40% of their class.
  • Financial need.
St. Clairsville Rotary Club Scholarship- $750 a year (approximate)
  • Entering St. Clairsville High School graduate with a minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a.
  • Financial need, leadership and activities will be considered.
Belmont Savings Bank Scholarship- $750 a year (approximate)
  • Resident of Belmont County
  • Minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a.
  • Financial need.
  • Extracurricular activities considered.

Switzerland of Ohio Local School District Scholarships for Education - $750 a year (approximate)

  • Must be a graduate and current resident of the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District majoring in Education.
  • Minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a. and demonstrate financial need.
The Charles A. Wilson, Jr. Scholarship - $750 a year (approximate)
  • Bridgeport High School graduate
  • Minimum 2.0 a.g.p.a.
Culbertson Memorial Scholarship - $700 a year (approximate)
  • Belmont or Harrison County resident pursuing a degree in one of the "helping" professions.
  • Recommended minimums: 3.0 a.g.p.a. and 20 ACT.
Bridgeport Rotary Club Scholarship - $675 a year (approximate)
  • Resident of Bridgeport School District, graduate of Bridgeport or St. John Central High School.
  • Minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a. and demonstrate a financial need.
Elizabeth Magyar Education Award - $600 a year (approximate)
  • Graduate of Shadyside School District and a resident of Belmont County
  • Must be an Early or Middle Childhood major.
  • Financial need.
  • Top 20% of high school class.
  • Preference will be given to sophomores and above.
  • Essay preferred on "Why I want to pursue a degree in Education"
Ohio University Eastern Campus Scholarship - $600 a year (approximate)
  • Fund established by O.U. Eastern faculty and staff.
  • Incoming freshman with two of the following:
    1. Top 25% of senior class
    2. High school a.g.p.a. of 3.5 or above
    3. 21 ACT
Liberty Antalis Memorial Scholarship - $550 a year (approximate)
  • Undergraduate pursuing a degree in English, or related field, i.e., Communication or Fine Arts.
  • Above average grades from high school

James W. Newton, PhD. Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)

  • Top 20% of high school class.
  • Financial need.
  • Students interested in the social sciences with preference give to those interested in geography as a discipline of study.
  • Priority given to freshmen or nontraditional students.
Rodney D. Hanson Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Education or Pre-Law Major residing in Belmont County.
  • Minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a. and demonstrate a financial need.
Union Local High School Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Union Local High School graduate
  • Recommnded minimums: 3.0 a.g.p.a. and 20 ACT.
John B. and Elizabeth Lancione Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Bellaire High School graduate in a pre-professional field of study.
  • Recommended minimums: 3.0 a.g.p.a. or 20 ACT.
Goodman Family and James C. Bryant Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Must be a full-time Ohio University Eastern student.
The Citizens Savings Bank Business Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Must major in Business or a related field.
  • Minimum ACT of 21 and top 30% of high school class.
  • Priority given to freshman.
Katherine F. Whinnery and Family Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Top 50% of high school class, preference given to Harrison County resident.
  • Financial need.
Dr. Richard McMann Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Financial need.
  • Preference to nontraditional students majoring in the humanities or social sciences, especially sociology or anthropology.
National City Bank Scholarship - $500 a year (approximate)
  • Minimum 3.5 a.g.p.a.
  • Resident of one of the following counties: Belmont, Guernsey, Jefferson, or Monroe.
  • Preference will be given to a customer or immediate relative of a customer of National City Bank.
Eugene and Matilda Heavilin Family Scholarship - $500 (approximate)
  • Must be incoming freshman from Harrison County.
  • Minimum 2.5 a.g.p.a.
  • Resident of one of the following counties: Belmont, Guernsey, Jefferson, or Monroe

Paul G. & Stell T. Crum Family Appreciation Scholarship - $500 (approximate)

  • Resident of Monroe County
  • Preference given to students who have attended St. sylvester's School

James Kettler Memorial Scholarship - $500 (approximate)

  • Priority given to students majoring in Physics
  • Consideration given to students majoring in the sciences, mathematics, or education with a concentration in math or the sciences

Walter Latacz Scholarship for Students with Disabilities - $500 (approximate)

  • Designated for students who qualify for Disability Services through Ohio University
  • Priority given to students pursuing a career in healthcare professions

Upperclass/Transfer Scholarships

Upperclass Achievement Scholarship - Full Tuition less any eligible OCOG and Pell
  • Minimum 3.9 a.g.p.a.
  • Accumulative hours 90+

Upperclass Honors Scholarship - $2500 a year less any eligible OCOG and Pell that exceeds the cost of tuition

  • Minimum 3.75 a.g.p.a.
  • Accumulative hours 45+

Access Merit Scholarship - One Half Tuition less any eligible OCOG and Pell that exceeds the cost of tuition

  • Minority citizen of the United States entering O.U. Eastern as a transfer student.
  • Recommended minimum of 3.0 a.g.p.a. in college.
  • Leadership or involvement in high school or community activities/organizations.

  • Bellaire High School graduate with a minimum 3.0 a.g.p.a.
Transfer Scholarship - $1500 a year
  • Applicants must have completed at least 36 quarter hours (or equivalent) within the past year.
  • Have achieved a minimum of a 3.0 a.g.p.a. in all previous college level course work.

  • Recommended minimum: 3.3 a.g.p.a.

  • The state grant for Ohio is the Ohio College Opportunity Grant which is referred to as OCOG in this document.
  • All scholarships require a minimum of 16 hours taken at Ohio University's Eastern Campus each quarter.
  • You must apply for scholarships each academic year.
