- Advisor
- Your assigned academic advisor will assist you in selecting courses, setting timelines, and completing the required documents for the quarters to semesters
transition. This person will help you plan your courses and assist you throughout the
transition.

Course Sequence
- Two or three courses that are intended to be taken consecutively in
order to fulfill degree/program requirements. These courses are meant to be taken in a
particular order, as earlier courses are generally pre-requisites for courses later in the
sequence. Example: Spanish 111, 112, 113. Course sequences should be completed
before transition to semesters or begun after conversion to semesters.

Credit Conversion
- The conversion of quarter credits to semester credits. To convert
quarter hours to semester hours, multiply credit hours by two-thirds. For example if you
have earned 45 quarter hours, they will convert to 30 semester hours. If it took 192
quarter hours to earn a Bachelor's degree at OU, then after conversion you would need
to earn 128 semester hours. A 4 credit class would convert to 2.67 semester hours, but
the 2.67 would be rounded up to 3 semester hours. The student's g.p.a. would not be
affected by the conversion of credits.

Credit Hour
- One semester credit hour will be awarded for a minimum of 750 minutes
of formalized instruction during an academic session.

Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS)
- DARS analyzes degree requirements
for a major/minor/certificate according to the catalog year in which the student
entered the program. DARS reports are the results of the analysis.

Quarter System
- The quarter system divides the academic year into four enrollment
periods (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer) of about 10 weeks of instruction each. OU
will cease using the quarter system in summer 2012.

Semester Credit Hour
- One semester credit hour will be awarded for a minimum of
750 minutes of formalized instruction during an academic term. Typically, students
should work out of class on assignments for an average of two hours for every 50
minutes of formalized instruction.

Semester System
- The semester system divides the academic year into three main
enrollment periods (Fall, Spring and Summer) of about 14 weeks of instruction each.

Transition DARS
- DARS which reflects both quarter and semester coursework for
transition student's degree completion requirements. A semester-based DARS will be
developed that express the program requirements of transition students.

Transition Degree Completion Plan (TDCP)
- Individualized plan for transition students
completing their degree in semesters. This document will allow for the advisor and
student to plan the remaining required quarter and semester courses needed to
complete the degree. This plan will be signed by the student, academic advisor, College official and placed into the student's academic record.

Transition student
- A student who enrolled on the quarter system and who will
continue her or his studies and graduate on the semester system.

- The public institutions of higher education in Ohio, which
includes 14 universities and 23 community colleges. The purpose of the University
System of Ohio (USO) is to provide high quality, affordable education to meet Ohioans'
varied needs. The USO is governed by the Ohio Board of Regents.
