ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (November 27, 2013) - Boys and girls in prekindergarten - 6th grade are invited to attend "Hoops for HoHo" on Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon - 2pm in the Health and Physical Education Center at Ohio University Eastern. Registration will begin at 11:30am.
This marks the 13th year for the popular clinic, which is sponsored annually by OUE. "Hoops for HoHo" is free but each child is asked to bring a new or gently used toy that will be donated to Bethlehem Apostolic Temple in North Wheeling for immediate community distribution to those in need. Toy ideas include coloring books, art supplies, riding toys, musical instruments, action figures, baby dolls and games.
OUE Athletic Director E. J. Schodzinski will direct the clinic which will focus on the FUNdamentals: passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defense. Schodzinski will be assisted by OUE Women's basketball Coach Adam Perzanowski and Men's basketball Coach Madzia, the OUE men's and women's basketball teams, and area high school players and coaches too.
"The Christmas clinic feels like a natural," said Schodzinski. "Anytime you are able to help others, particularly at Christmas time, it gives you a great feeling. We feel like this clinic will enable us to treat the participants to a great basketball experience, while helping our local community at the same time." Schodzinski continued with a smile, "The timing may even help parents do some Christmas shopping while their children are at the clinic."
According to Schodzinski, "Hoops for HoHo" has been well received by the community, averaging over 100 participants annually. He estimates the clinic has generated around 1,500 toy donations over the years.
