ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - Shadyside's Nick Schuetz and Bellaire's Devin Ward each played major roles in leading Ohio University Eastern to an 18-7 record and second place finish in the East Division of the ORCC this season. In recognition of their efforts, the conference coaches have voted Schuetz and Ward second team All-ORCC.
Schuetz, an honorable mention selection in 2012, averaged 16.1 points per game and led the team with 41 three point goals. He went over 1,000 points in his career late in the season versus Akron Wayne. In addition, the 6'0" guard was strong on the boards, contributing 4.9 rebounds per contest. Schuetz also cashed in on 88 out of 113 trips to the line to lead the team in foul shooting at 78 percent.
"Nick has been a solid player for the last three years," said OUE Head Coach Donnie Madzia. "He has developed into a flat out scorer and I am expecting bigger and better things for him next year as a senior."
Ward, a 6'0" guard from Bellaire, transferred back home after playing a year of football at Urbana. He averaged 18.1 points per game to lead the team and also chipped in with 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 steals each outing. "Devin really came on the second half of the season and played very well for us," said Madzia. "He became our best option offensively and most consistent scorer."
"I am glad to see both Devin and Nick get recognized by the conference coaches for their outstanding play."
