Ohio University has made special arrangements with various software companies to provide the Ohio University Community with software for reduced prices (or for FREE for a few specific titles). These prices are significantly lower than retail prices, but they are only good for current Ohio University students and faculty and staff. The free software may be downloaded from OU with your OAK ID. To purchase the software, please stop in at the Library to check for availability. (We do not keep all software on hand, but we can order it for you. Please allow two weeks for delivery.)

Free Software

Members of the Ohio University community can purchase, through OU, software from companies such as Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, and Solid Edge for significantly reduced prices as compared to retail. (For a complete list of available software, check the OU Software page.) The Eastern Campus Library tries to keep copies of Microsoft Office available for purchase, but other software can be ordered for purchase. Please allow two weeks for delivery.

Microsoft Software for Students & Faculty/Staff (Home Use)

As of July 1, 2006, a new Microsoft Agreement was signed. Media (CDs) can no longer be "loaned out" to students or faculty/staff.

Students and faculty/staff can purchase the media (for home use) at the Library Circulation Desk. Students have been allowed to purchase the media in the previous agreement, but now faculty/staff can also purchase the media for home use. Your valid Ohio University ID is required to purchase media/CD.

You may purchase the following media at the Library Circulation Desk:

  • Microsoft Office XP for Windows
(includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) - $70

  • Microsoft Office 2003 Professional for Windows
(includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher) - $70

The Microsoft Office CDs are on a special disc called a LVP. You may only purchase one Microsoft Office CD (plus exchange for an upgrade as mentioned below). The software can be installed and registered on one computer that you own (i.e. desktop or laptop). If you have Office installed and buy a new computer, you can remove Office from the old computer and install on your new computer. Office must be registered with Microsoft after each install (see below).

If you have already purchased a previous version of Microsoft Office, you can exchange it for the latest version. You need to bring your old Office CD back and exchange it for an upgrade to the latest version. You will need to pay an additional $70 also.

You will be required to register your Office LVP software with Microsoft and enter a confirmation number provided by Microsoft before the 50th launch of the software. If the software is not registered before the 50th launch, it will not work until it is registered. You can register the software via the network, modem, mail or telephone (1-888-652-2342).

If you receive a damaged or defective LVP, you may exchange it for a new one at the Library Circulation Desk. Bring the defective LVP and your OU ID card with you.
