Subject:  Winter Weather Information and Procedures

As we enter the winter season, please note that as a University we do not generally close the campus.  On occasion, we do cancel morning or evening classes due to inclement weather and severe road conditions.  On rare occasions, we may have to cancel classes for an entire day.

When we do cancel classes please be aware of the following terms used by the local media and how we apply them to our campus:

2 Hour Delay - this means that any classes scheduled to take place from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. are cancelled and you will begin taking any regularly scheduled classes at 10:00 a.m.

Evening Classes Canceled - this means that all regularly scheduled classes after 6:00 p.m. are canceled.

Campus Closed - this means that the campus is closed for the day after this announcement is made.

When we do cancel classes, we will place this notice on the Ohio University website (www.ohio.edu), campus phone (740-699-2543), email it to your university email address, and via the following television and radio stations:  WTOV 9, WTRF 7, WWVA, WOVK, WEGW, WKWK, WBBD, WVKF, Jack-FM, KOOL-FM, 1290 WOMP (AM), 1340 WSTV, and Froggy 98.3.

Winter weather announcements will generally be made by 6:30 a.m. for morning classes (starting before noon) and by 4:00 p.m. for evening classes when possible.

Road conditions can vary considerably throughout the valley and students should use their own judgment in determining if it is safe for them to travel to campus.  However, students should notify faculty when they must miss class and missed class work should be made up in consultation with the course professor.
