Former U.S. Representative, Charlie Wilson, was born on January 14, 1943 and died on April 14, 2013. In addition to being a small business owner, he spent 14 years serving in the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Senate, and as a Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Wilson attended Ohio University Belmont and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
In cooperation with the Wilson Family, Ohio University Eastern (formerly known as Ohio University Belmont) is honored to be the host institution for the Congressman Charlie Wilson Leadership Program. While the specific details are still to be determined, it is anticipated that this program will give Ohio University Eastern students the opportunity to participate in a leadership program that consists of scholarships, seminars, internship opportunities, and a lecture series that critically examines such topics as small business development, leadership, public service, and entrepreneurship.
This program seeks to honor Congressman Wilson's long time commitment to the Ohio Valley and eastern Ohio. It will provide Ohio University Eastern students with education and training that will increase their knowledge and skills in the area of leadership, with the goal of developing the next generation of leaders who are committed to serving the community and the region.
This leadership program will develop a cadre of community leaders who will carry on the legacy of Congressman Charlie Wilson, who dedicated much of his life to public service, and helping working people improve their lives and that of their families.
