Urban Scholars Program:
The Urban Scholars Program is a need-based scholarship program targeted to high school graduates of urban school districts in Ohio. The program provides scholarship support to students from disproportionately represented groups with demonstrated financial need, excellent academic achievement, and who have the desire and motivation to succeed.
The Urban Scholars Program includes: - A four-year renewable scholarship
- Annual book stipend
- Participation in a summer pre-matriculation program
- Participation in academic-support seminars
- Mentoring experience with an Ohio University alum
- An annual leadership seminar
- Participation in a research experience
- Internship opportunities
- Technology and research training
Eligibility:
Applicants must be academically talented, attend school in an Ohio urban school district and demonstrate financial need. Other factors included in the review process are grade point average, class rank, and standardized test scores.
How to Apply:
1) Students must be admitted to Ohio University and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15.
2) Students who meet the eligibility requirements and who complete the FAFSA by the specified deadline will be notified by the Office of Multicultural Student Access and Retention of the process to follow in completing the Urban Scholars application.
3) Eligible students will be invited to submit the Urban Scholars application which requires two essays, two letters of recommendation and the personal profile form.
4) Completed applications will be reviewed and candidates from the pool of eligible students who are selected for further consideration will interview with members of the selection committee.
