Accommodations Process
Once you have completed the registration process with the Office of Disability Services (ODS), there are a few steps you need to follow each quarter in order to receive your accommodations or support services.

Professor Notification Letters to Receive Academic Accommodations:
- Fill out Letter Request Form, available at front desk, within the first two (2) weeks of
the quarter. - Return to ODS office in three (3) business days to pick up letters for professors.
- Deliver letters to the professor. (For those students not on campus or for online
classes, ODS will mail letters by US or campus mail to the professor(s).
Testing through DS office:
- Pick up an Exam Proctor Sheet, available at the front desk of Crewson House or print
off of the ODS website - Fill out the top portion of the Exam Proctor Sheet and have your instructor fill out the
bottom portion (*It is the student's responsibility to submit the Exam Proctor Sheet in
a timely manner in order to have exams proctored by ODS) - Return Exam Proctor Sheet no later than one (1) week prior to the first scheduled
exam date appearing on sheet - Student must also sign an Exam Proctor Policy form prior to testing through ODS. This
form outlines testing procedures and policies in ODS (e.g., leave bags and unnecessary
items for testing in reception area, arrive on time or no later than ten (10) minutes for
exam, bring all necessary materials for exam to testing location). - Notify Abby Webb, Interim Assistant Director, immediately of any exam changes.
Requesting Materials in Alternate Formats:
To have text materials scanned into speech format via Kurzweil 3000 text-to-speech software or Braille format:
- Bring text materials to DS office and fill out a Alternate Format Text Request Form
(Office Assistance can help Visually Impaired students complete the form). - Student employees will scan the materials into your requested format and burn them
onto data CD’s. - Student employees will e-mail student once CD’s are ready for pickup from DS office.
To request CD’s from Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D):
- Student must fill out an Alternate Format Text Request Form.
- ODS will order the cd's and e-mail student when materials have arrived.
Tutoring Services:
Tutoring services are accessed through the Academic Advancement Center (AAC) in Alden Library at Ohio University. Students registered with DS are allowed up to four (4) hours per class per week of free tutoring. Students must notify AAC of their registration with DS in order to receive free services. Setting up a tutor can be done either online through the AAC website (http://www.ohio.edu/tutoring) or in person in the AAC. Step by step instructions are available as a Word Document, PDF, or Power Point slides.
Note Taking Services:
Students requiring the services of a note taker should work with their professors to identify a peer within the class that may serve as a note taker for the student. If a note taker cannot be identified through the professor, please contact your assigned representative to arrange a note taker.
Interpreting Services:
Students and other campus community members requiring the services of a sign language interpreter should contact Abby Webb in ODS immediately to coordinate interpreter services.
Transportation Services:
The Office of Transportation and Parking manages the CATCAB, Ohio University’s shuttle service for persons with permanent or temporary disabilities. Students registered with ODS who have need for transportation will be approved as riders for CATCAB. In order to maintain eligibility for this service, riders must follow the policy and procedures for CATCAB available at: http://www.facilities.ohiou.edu/trans/catcab_generalinfo.htm
Housing Accommodations:
Accessible housing is available on each residential green. In addition, many disability needs can be accommodated by making modifications to standard student housing. ODS will provide advice about housing options that best suit your disability needs and facilitate accommodations with the Residential Housing Office. Residential Housing Office staff will then follow up regarding specific placement.
