Ohio University is currently conducting a series of exchanges involving civic and religious leaders in Indonesia and the United States. These exchanges are designed to promote greater understanding among peoples of different faiths by expanding dialogue on critical issues including religious freedom, individual rights, and relations among faith communities.

 

INDONESIA PROGRAMS
 
I. 
A U.S. based study tour designed to advance conflict management and tolerance promotion efforts in regions prone to inter-religious conflict in Indonesia. This component will provide opportunities for Indonesians to discuss conflict management strategies with Americans that have also experienced inter-group tensions in their communities. II. 
A U.S. based exchange designed to support efforts by various religious leaders to facilitate inter-religious dialogue within their communities. Representatives of Indonesia's various Muslim, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist communities will participate. Participants
 
 
III. 
A U.S. based exchange engaging Indonesian Islamic leaders in dialogue with American civic and religious leaders on critical issues affecting relations between Americans and those living in Muslim societies. Issues such as religious freedom, multicultural education, and the promotion of women’s status in society will be addressed. Participants
 
 
IV. 
A delegation of American religious leaders will visit Indonesia for two weeks in December 2004 in order to continue this exploration of inter-religious issues in the Indonesian context. A series of interfaith dialogues will be conducted as well as visits to various government agencies, NGOs, and religious institutions. Participants
