A Diabetes-Free Society

Diabetes Coalition

The diabetes coalition meets quarterly to plan activities and provide education credits to its members with the goal of enhancing knowledge of diabetes education, research and best practices.

Our Mission: To provide comprehensive diabetes education, medical care, research and public advocacy for the citizens of southeastern Ohio and West Virginia. Our goal is to reduce cost, premature death and personal suffering that often results from the long-term complications of diabetes mellitus.

History: Established by the Diabetes/Endocrine Center and affiliated faculty from Ohio University, the coalition is a training and continuing education resource for diabetes educators in the region. The coalition includes eleven regional ADA-recognized diabetes education programs and their diabetes educators, dietitians, faculty from various schools and departments at Ohio University, regional school health nurses and public health officials and advocates. Many members of the coalition, including Diabetes Center affiliated staff and faculty, participate in the Ohio Diabetes Alliance, a component of the state-wide Ohio Department of Health’s Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
