Division Directors

The Diabetes Institute Division Directors are responsible for their division (research, clinical, education or outreach). As such, each Division Director serves as a facilitator and point of contact for that division. Each division director provides the vision for for this division and represents the Institute on Health Sciences Leadership Council and other relevant entities. Below are the Institute's five division directors.

Grant Writer
Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Russell E. Savage Jr. joined the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine serving the Diabetes Institute at Ohio University as the grant writer. Most recently, he was an environmental health scientist (technical director) with ICF International, specializing in environmental health issues including risk assessments, occupational exposure limits and implementation of biomarkers into these processes. Dr. Cheryl A. Howe joined Ohio University's School of Applied Health Science and Wellness in the fall of 2010 as an assistant professor in exercise physiology. Dr. Howe is the co-director for the Education Division of the Diabetes Institute at Ohio University and serves on the Global Health Task Force and the Inter-professional Research Colloquium. Dr. Karen T. Coschigano, is an associate professor of molecular/cellular biology at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and serves as co-director for the Education Division of the Diabetes Institute at Ohio University. Jay Shubrook, D.O.

Dr. Jay Shubrook is an associate professor of family medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) . He currently serves as the director of clinical research at OU-HCOM, director of the Diabetes Endocrine Center and program director for the Diabetes Fellowship Program.
