2007-08
Purpose
There are three purposes of the Council of Student Leaders (COSL):
- COSL provides advice and counsel to the Dean of Students on matters of student concern. This advice does not replace but complements formal recommendations made by Student Senate and other student governing bodies. Further, COSL may be asked to provide such advice and counsel to other administrative officers of the University. A portion of meeting time is devoted to providing feedback on ideas, input into decision making, or raising issues to be addressed.
- COSL serves as a vehicle for information sharing and support between and among key student leaders on campus. A portion of meeting time is devoted to discussion of concerns, topics, and ideas generated by members of the group. This includes sharing practical information about events and plans, as well as discussing topics of common concern to student leaders.
- COSL provides a mechanism for continuing professional and leadership development of its members. A portion of meeting time is devoted to learning about the University and its functioning in an effort to enhance the effectiveness of student leaders who are members. Further, focused training on the principles and practice of effective leadership is provided.
