Diversity, Access and Equity

Welcome to the Office for Diversity, Access and Equity (DAE) at Ohio University!

At Ohio University we define diversity in a broad sense, as dictated by demographic and cultural shifts at home and abroad, and reflected in the combination of offices and initiatives within DAE.

We pride ourselves on the enrichment offered through a diverse educational experience. What better way to prepare our students to go out in the world to make a difference than offering them a transformative learning experience that is more reflective of our diverse global community? Diversity in all of its forms serves to enrich the distinct educational experience of our students, faculty, and staff.

Brian BridgesDr. Brian K. Bridges, Vice Provost for Diversity, Access and Equity

Ohio has a rich legacy of diversity on campus from John Newton Templeton as the first African American graduate in 1828, to Margaret Boyd as the first female graduate in 1873, to John R. Blackburn as the first African American member of the board of trustees in 1885, to Saki Taro Murayama as the first international student in 1896 and continuing through to today. Our goal within DAE is to build upon this legacy by infusing diversity ubiquitously throughout institutional programs, policies, practices and curricula, leading to a supportive, affirming and positive environment for all students, faculty and staff.Link to Academic Matters Blog
