Here are some small bits of news from Cutler Scholars and Alumni!
Benefactors Lizabeth and Charles Emrick, Jr. hosted a brunch in Rocky River for their Cutler Scholars on December 26. Attending were (left to right): Karen Deardorff, Colin McCrone, Jamie Smith, Lizabeth Emrick, Charles Emrick, Gina Beach, Kacie Scherry Baon, and Butch Hill. Scholars Johnna Sloan Weber and Katie Hinman were out of the state and unable to attend.
Cassie Costilow, Hughes scholar ’10, is attending the American Auditory Society (AAS) Scientific and Technical Meeting convention in Scottsdale, Arizona, in March. She received a Resident and Graduate Student Poster Session grant sponsored by the NIH and AAS which covers all of her trip-related expenses. In addition to presenting the research she completed for her HTC thesis, she will take part in workshops geared towards “young investigators” to encourage further research in the field of auditory science.
Jessica Wilson Sen, Stocker scholar ’08, completed an intervention specialist mild/moderate master’s degree from Ashland University in December 2010.
Gabe Weinstein, Grasselli Brown scholar ’13, was selected as an intern for the Scripps Howard Foundation’s seminar in Washington, D.C. during winter quarter.
Gina Beach, Emrick scholar ’09, completed her master’s of education degree from Dominican University in December 2010. She is applying to a Teach for America led professional development trip to Israel this summer.
Ethan Cottrill, Cutler Alumni scholar ’13, volunteered on a United Planet Health Care Quest in Centro de Salud Clas Ttio, Cusco, Peru, over winter break.
Jordan Templeton, Stocker scholar ’10, was accepted into Teach for America as a secondary math teacher in Los Angeles.
Ethan Cottrill, Cutler Alumni scholar ’13, was selected as an Ohio University Goldwater scholarship nominee.
Matthew Denhart, McClure/Fuller scholar ’10, and Andrea Blamble are engaged.
Jamie Smith, Emrick scholar ’11, was accepted into Teach for America. Her placement, which begins in June, will be in Phoenix.
Brittni Downs, COB/EAB scholar ’11, and Brent Miller will be married on June 25, 2011.
Kyle Criner, Hughes scholar ’14, is training for the upcoming Athens half-marathon.
Jackson Lavelle, McClure/Fuller scholar ’14, was accepted into the Global Leadership Center.
Brianne Porter, Riedel scholar ’10, was first author on “Photoisomerization in an analogous set of ruthenium sulfoxide complexes” which was recently published in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry 217.
Alison Leonard, Hughes scholar ’13, formed the first Nursing Club student organization at Ohio University and is serving as its first president.
