The purpose of the Ohio University non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month award is to acknowledge and recognize those who are setting the standards for excellence and innovation at Ohio University.
This recognition is Classified Senate’s way of awarding those employees who have shown outstanding individual achievement and performance of their jobs, while inspiring and supporting the achievement of others. Criteria include:
- Positive attitude and serving as a role model
- Productivity and commitment to quality
- Initiative and taking on additional responsibilities
The November 2018 recipient is Michelle Ruble, an administrative specialist in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Affairs Office. She who was nominated by her co-worker Beth McDonald.
McDonald wrote these comments about Ruble in the nomination form:
“Michelle has a wealth of knowledge about our students and processes that benefits all of us in Student Affairs. If all else fails, we know we can always ask Michelle for help. If she does not have a ready answer, she often knows who will,” McDonald said. “Not only that, but she is lively and brightens our days with her wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh. She works tirelessly to ensure all of our students understand their financial aid options and can focus their energies on being medical students … I am sure that the entire Office of Student Affairs would agree that Michelle is a true asset to our department.”
These are Ruble’s answers to some get-to-know-you questions:
How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?
It was a complete surprise. I had no idea that I had been nominated.
What is your job title and how long have you worked it?
My job title is administrative specialist. I have been in this position since 2008 and have been with the University for 21 years.
What are the most enjoyable things about your job?
I love working with the students and helping them out. I like to try to fix things so if they are having issues, I try to see if there is anything I can do to resolve it.
What is your hometown and where do you live now?
My hometown is New Marshfield, Ohio, and I still live there.
What are your long-term goals?
Retire and travel.
What was the last good book you read?
I can’t remember. I have a problem that if I pick up a book, I won’t do any cooking, cleaning or anything around the house until I am finished reading it. I have found that my best bet is to skip reading if I don’t want the house to fall around my ears and hear everyone screaming they are hungry and what are we going to eat.
If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ______?
Nurse or school teacher. Those were the two things I wanted to do when I grew up.
What things in life are the most important to you?
My family.
Where is your favorite vacation destination?
I have always loved the ocean, so going to the Outer Banks or Myrtle Beach is a favorite vacation spot.
What are your hobbies?
I like to knit and crochet.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I love watching WWE wrestling and went to see them in person on Labor Day and had a blast.
What are your favorite TV shows?
"WWE Monday Night RAW" and "Smack Down."
Who are your favorite musicians?
I don’t really have a favorite. I like country music.
What is the next big event you can't wait for?
Christmas, because it is my favorite holiday. I love hanging out with family and I enjoy being home with them.
Who are your favorite celebrities?
I like following the British royals, William and Kate and Harry and Meghan. I just enjoy reading about their life.
What is your dream car/truck/SUV?
When I was younger, I always wanted a Lamborghini. Now that I am older, I think I would like a luxurious motorhome to tour the U.S. with after I retire.
What is your favorite saying or quote?
It’ll be alright.
