OHIO partners with HAPCAP to provide transportation services to University community

Last year, Ohio University partnered with the Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP) program on various training activities and events including, Ride with Rufus and Ohio Loves Transit Week.

HAPCAP administers OHIO’s Go Bus and Bobcat Pass Program to the University. The Go Bus, a statewide intercity bus service, travels from Athens to many destination cities including Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Marietta/Parkersburg. Prices are based upon the distance that is being traveled.

The Bobcat Pass program enables Ohio University faculty, staff and students to ride Athens Public Transit buses for free when they show their valid OHIO ID card.

“Public transportation systems bring many benefits to individuals, communities and the local economy,” said Shawna Bolin, OHIO associate vice president for university planning. “The valued partnership with HAPCAP has allowed for increased mobility and access opportunities.”

HAPCAP’s Athens On Demand Transit provides an accessible and affordable door-to-door transportation service to persons with disabilities for a $2 fare one way. Its mission is to serve the elderly, those with disabilities and rural people traveling to medical care.

Ohio University Transportation & Parking Services offers two free transportation options for individuals with mobility limitations within the University community, the Campus Area Transportation Cutting Across Boundaries (CATCAB) and the Campus Area Transit Service (CATS).

The CATCAB is a door-to-door transit solution which accommodates those with temporary or permanent mobility limitations. Individuals interested in registering with the service should contact Transportation Services at 740-593-1702.

CATS is a free shuttle service with dedicated routes servicing the Athens campus location. All vehicles are wheelchair accessible and can be tracked in real-time using the Double Map applications. Stop locations and routing information is available at: https://www.ohio.edu/transportation/cats.cfm
