University to host Aug. 1 public information session for chilled water plant construction

You are invited to a public information session to discuss the construction of a new chilled water plant to be located on McKinley Avenue on the Ohio University Athens campus.

The discussion will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Ohio University Human Resources and Training Center (HRTC) rooms 141/145.

The $26.2 million project was approved by the Ohio University Board of Trustees in March 2017 in anticipation of future needs as identified through the Utility Master Plan and in coordination with the 2016 Comprehensive Master Plan. The building location was established in coordination with the 2016 Comprehensive Master Plan.

Construction is slated to begin in January 2019. Community impact will be minimal, but includes a partial road closure at McKinley and construction at Lot 50 in Summer 2019, and a partial road closure at University Terrace in Summer 2020.

It is anticipated that the plant will begin operations to provide chilled water to the campus distribution system in April 2020.
