Meet the May 2014 Classified Employee of the Month

Great job Jody Van Bibber!

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Very surprised! I am flattered that my superiors think so much of me.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I have been the administrative associate for The Diabetes Institute since it was formed two years ago.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

The people and the cause. I work with a great group of faculty, staff and students. For years I worked in a job that really didn’t make a difference. While working with The Diabetes Institute I may not be in direct contact with our mission in that I don’t teach, see patients or perform research. However, I know that what I do in the background is important and will help those people make a difference in the lives of so many touched by diabetes.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I have always lived in Hocking County. I was born in Starr, grew up in Logan and now live in Union Furnace.

What are your long-term goals?

To take today for what it is, to only look back at yesterday for the good memories and to always look forward for the new day as just that, a new day.

What was the last good book you read?

The Holy Bible. Great book! If you haven’t read it you should, it will change you.

What things in life are the most important to you?

God and my family

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

Home, there’s no place like it.

What are your hobbies?

Call me crazy, but I like to clean.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

There isn’t much to know. I am a very honest and open person.

What are your favorite TV shows?

Anything on HGTV and "The Walking Dead," because it is mandatory in my house.

Who are your favorite musicians?

The Piano Guys

Who are your favorite celebrities?

Jesus Christ! Because he is Jesus Christ.

Who are the most annoying celebrities?

All of them. I am not a fan of celebrities and I do not think that anything any of them do is newsworthy.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

It only exists in my mind. I want a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that gets the mileage of a Subaru and costs less than I paid for my first home!

What is your favorite saying or quote?

"You cannot always control the things that happen to you. You can always control the way that you react to the things that happen to you."
