Deb Gearhart, vice provost for eLearning and Strategic Partnerships at Ohio University, was elected vice chair of the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) 2014-2015 steering committee, the leadership group that helps direct the areas of educational technology the organization focuses on and the events to be held.
WCET is a national, non-profit, member-driven organization devoted to advancing excellence in technology-enhanced higher education through practice, policy and technology. It is a division of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE).
When Gearhart starts as vice chair in November, she also will begin a four-year commitment to the WCET executive council, a group that oversees the organization’s policy and financial goals. Gearhart will assume the steering committee chair position for 2015-2016, and then she will be on the executive council for two additional years.
Gearhart has been active with WCET since 1996, and she was elected to a three-year term on the steering committee in 2012. She is also affiliated with Quality Matters, the Association for Distance Education and Independent Learning, and the Online Learning Consortium (formerly the Sloan Consortium).
“I am pleased to be a leader in an organization like WCET,” Gearhart said. “Membership and involvement in these major distance education organizations helps me stay on top of best practices and changes in the field.”
