Visitor parking change underway for Baker University Center surface lot

Area will become paid parking lot

A recommendation by the Ohio University Visitor Parking Committee, which convened in fall 2013 to create meaningful changes to accommodate visitors, guests, and prospective students across campus, is being implemented with the conversion of the Baker University Center surface parking lot to pay parking.

The VPC, comprised of employees from various departments that are routinely involved in making arrangements for visitors, convened with the goal of transforming campus to help create additional accessibility.

One of the committee's recommendations included converting the surface parking area at Baker University Center to pay parking, and is currently underway. Several other additional VPC recommendations have been acted upon, including the impending opening of Bobcat Lane, changes in available permit types, and bringing meter payment options to campus, such as the recently implemented ParkMobile service.

Tentatively set for August 11, the Baker University Center surface parking area will become paid parking. Additional faculty and staff parking will be available at Lot 133, previously a commuter parking lot, between Walter Field House and Peden Stadium.

The change to Lot 133 creates 100 spaces for faculty and staff. Other parking lots in the area for faculty and staff include 200 spaces under the Convocation Center, as well as other dark green or purple parking lots.

“Once the VPC concluded with its recommendations, the OHIO Transportation and Parking Committee, comprised of faculty, staff and students, also reviewed and approved the recommendations,” said OHIO Transportation and Parking Services Director Marty Paulins. “Finally the recommendations were vetted with the academic and administrative leadership before implementation began. With the additional visitor parking at Baker and the opening of Bobcat Lane, we have improved the accessibility to campus for our visitors."

The newly designated Baker Center parking area, once implemented, will be tied into ParkMobile and will utilize a solar powered pay station that accepts cash and credit cards.
