Meet the August Classified Employee of the Month


Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.



How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Very shocked and was caught completely off-guard. I thought they were trying to recruit me to join Classified Senate.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I am an administrative assistant and have worked on campus for almost five years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

The variety I have in my job. I really enjoy talking and working with students. When I am away from campus, I will see students who I have worked with and we talk like we have known each other most of our lives.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I was born and raised in Athens and I still live in Athens

What are your long-term goals?

I hope I can work long enough to achieve full retirement. I want to save money for a very nice vacation with my kids or that special someone, or buy a house.

What was the last good book you read?

I don't read books, I can't sit still long enough to read. I am a busy body.

If you weren't in your present job, you would be working as a ______.

I would be a third grade teacher. I truly enjoy kids at this age. They have respect for their teacher and are learning to be independent.

What things in life are the most important?

My three children are my life. They have learned to laugh along with others while laughing at themselves. They are self-sufficient and they can do anything they set their minds to. They love to play jokes on me. My older sister is important to me also; she is my only sibling.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

Myrtle Beach. It is very relaxing to lie on the beach and listen to the ocean. It normally puts me to sleep – very relaxing.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy flea markets, antiques and hiking in Old Man's Cave. I have been to Mammoth Cave. I love exploring caves and nature. I would like to do a winter hike at Old Man's Cave.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I am a good listener and if students need to talk, I'm here for them. I am compassionate and understanding. With me, what you see is what you get. I don't pretend to be someone I am not. I have a fun personality and love to joke around.

What are your favorite TV shows?

Chicago Fire, America's Got Talent

Who is your favorite musician?

Michael W. Smith has been my favorite for many years. I had the opportunity to see him in concert at Christmas time. It was amazing and very beautiful!

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

To have my girls get married and become a grandma.

Who are your favorite celebrities?

Anyone who has overcome obstacles, I look up to them for the strength they had to overcome what they had.

Who are the most annoying celebrities?

Honey Boo Boo is more than just annoying. She needs to take a long vacation from TV.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

My dream car is a Honda CRV. I do not like getting out of my car to use the ATM.

What is your favorite saying?

Let a smile be your umbrella.
