Guidelines and entry forms are available for the 2013 Ohio University Homecoming Parade, and parade organizers are hoping to see plenty of campus and community organizations participate in this annual tradition of Bobcat pride.
The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. The deadline to submit parade entry forms, which this year are available online, is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Hosted by the University Program Council, the theme of this year's Homecoming celebration and the parade is "OUr Past, OUr Present, OUr Future."
Organizations from within OHIO and the surrounding community are invited to participate in the parade with spirited floats, banners and displays. Parade organizers decided that there would be no fee to enter the Homecoming Parade this year. Prizes, ranging from $150 to $500, will be awarded to the top three floats and banners, and the winners will be recognized at the Homecoming Football Game following the parade.
The parade route will be the same as last year, traversing city streets before heading onto the Athens Campus. The parade will start on Factory Street, turn right onto Union Street and then turn right onto Court Street (traveling in the opposite direction of the normal traffic flow). The parade will go past Baker University Center where the units will be scored by judges before proceeding left onto Park Place. The parade will then turn right onto University Terrace and proceed to parking lot 93 (outside the golf and tennis facility) for float dismantling and recycling.
