2010 BAR Cookout at Grover Center

The ever-growing BAR Cookout will take place at Grover Center again this year and will feature a “Through the Decades” theme in conjunction with the BAR 2013 photo project.

There will be a number of opportunities for alumni to connect and reconnect with OHIO classmates, faculty and friends during the three-day event.

2013 Black Alumni Reunion set for Sept. 27-29


During the weekend of Sept. 27-29, OHIO’s black alumni will celebrate their ties to the University with a host of exciting events. The much-anticipated triennial event is OHIO’s largest formal alumni reunion, drawing hundreds of alumni back to campus.

This year, we are hosting a “Through the Decades” photo project on Facebook, so please share your photos here. If you do not have a Facebook account, you will need to create one in order to access the page.

The BAR schedule is packed with festivities that offer opportunities for OHIO alumni to celebrate the rich tradition of Ohio University’s African-American heritage, including the following signature events:

Friday, Sept. 27

  • “Gospel Voices of Faith Reception” at Baker University Center, 5th floor, from 3 to 4 p.m.;
  • BAR Welcome Reception from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at Baker University Center, rooms 240 & 242;
  • BAR Comedy Show at 7 p.m. sponsored by Nationwide Insurance at Templeton Blackburn Memorial Auditorium; and
  • “Hats Off to Dr. Francine Childs” at 9 p.m., hosted by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, at Baker University Center’s Theater.

Saturday, Sept. 28

  • Ebony Bobcat Network (EBN) Welcome Breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Walter Hall’s Rotunda;
  • BAR Symposium at Alden Library from 11 to noon, titled “The African American Student Experience Through the Decades”;
  • “Through the Decades” Cookout from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grover Center;
  • Greek Receptions throughout Baker University Center from 1 to 3 p.m.; and
  • The capstone Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. in Baker Ballroom, themed “Celebrating Black Heritage at Ohio University Through the Decades.”


The weekend festivities will come to a close on Sunday with a special “EBN Coffee Hour and Send Off” from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center.
