Compass named a finalist for PR award

Compass, the official news and information source for Ohio University, has been named a finalist in the internal publication category of PR News' Platinum PR Awards program. The awards honor the year's most outstanding communications initiatives and programs in the area of public relations.

Published by the Internal Communications Team at University Communications and Marketing (UCM), Compass operates on the philosophy that "an informed campus is an inspired campus." Available at http://www.ohio.edu/compass, Compass publishes news and information that is relevant and of interest to the OHIO community. Among those who have access to and read Compass regularly are prospective and current students; prospective, current and former faculty and staff members; alumni; parents; board members; and many others.

"It is an honor to have our staff and their work receive industry recognition in this program," said UCM Executive Director Renea Morris. "This achievement validates the stellar work produced by the UCM staff and student workers as well as communicators who serve throughout all six of our campuses. It illustrates what we can accomplish collectively as a team in delivering interesting information and timely news to our University stakeholders."

In addition to Compass, other finalists for the Platinum PR Award in the internal publications category include some titans in their respective industries. Among them are Diageo LAC, Lockheed Martin Corp. and Prudent Financial. Kaiser Permanente, one of the nation's largest healthcare providers, won in the internal publications category last year.

The award winner will be announced at the Platinum PR Awards Luncheon on Oct. 15 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. All finalists will receive an award as either a winner or honorable mention.
