The Ohio University community mourns the loss of longtime employee Sue Teaford, who died on June 4. Teaford served as the West Green Administrative Coordinator and had been employed by the University since Sept. 15, 1986.
“It’s clear to me after seeing some of the outpouring of love and grief that’s come from the staff, students and alumni that she’s had a profound impact in her role over the years, and we’re at a loss over her death,” said Peter Trentacoste, OHIO executive director of Residential Housing.
Teaford joined OHIO as a typist in International Student and Faculty Services and transferred to Residence Life in 1988 as a clerical specialist. She became administrative coordinator of South Green in fall 1989, a position she retained until she became administrative coordinator of West Green in fall 2003. She continued in that capacity until her retirement in May 2014.
Billi Jo Reeves, administrative coordinator of South Green, described her co-worker as someone who was dedicated to her work and had a positive impact on the lives of others.
“She came in every morning at 6:30 a.m. and worked until 5 p.m.,” Reeves said. “She was very dedicated, had such a positive attitude and always looked on the bright side. She was always looking for ways to improve, was a go-to person you could talk to and was known for her big smile. She was always full of life and energy. She will be missed.”
Teaford’s family has requested a memorial tree be planted in her memory, and the hope is to plant the tree on West Green. Contributions may be made to support the memorial tree by contacting Janet Howard at email@example.com. A memorial service will be held in Athens at a later date.
