Meet the March 2014 Classified Employee of the Month

Great job Becky Fox!

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

I was completely surprised. I thought I was going to a staff meeting and was running late since my co-workers had distracted me with questions about calendar meetings. When I walked into the conference room, I could not figure out why everyone was standing and the three Classified Senate committee members were there.

What is your job title and how long have you worked here?

My job title is assistant to the dean of Scripps College of Communication. I've been at this job for more two years and with the University for six years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

I really enjoy working with people. I work in a fantastic office where we have so many good people. It is wonderful to be part of such a great team. The best part of course is the students. I love the energy they bring into our school and office.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I grew up in Belpre, but I now live outside of Coolville.

What are your long-term goals?

I hope to be working here for another eight to 10 years before I retire.

If you weren't in your present job, you would be working as a ______. Why?

I would be working for a financial institution somewhere. I enjoyed working with investments in a former job, but I really love what I'm doing now.

What things in life are the most important to you?

My family is the most important thing in my life. I'm blessed that both of my parents are in good health. I've been married to the same great guy for 38 years (wow, that's a long time). We waited quite a while before we had children, so our youngest (13) is still at home. My brothers and sisters are my best friends, so we plan fun events and vacations together.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

I enjoy the Outer Banks of North Carolina the most. The state does a really good job at keeping the commercialization at a minimum. It's so nice that the beaches are never crowded and always have an abundance of wildlife.

What are your hobbies?

I really enjoy the outdoors. I always look for an excuse to go for a hike or even a quick walk in the woods on our property. I like to work in our garden in the summer and go camping a few times every year. We are so fortunate to work at such a beautiful campus and it is wonderful to take a walk at lunch time.

What are your favorite TV shows?

My favorite show is Parenthood (probably because Ron Howard produces it and I'm old enough to remember him as Opie on Andy Griffith).

Who are your favorite musicians?

I like all the rock oldies from the '70s & '80s

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

My oldest son, Derrrick, will graduate this spring from Ohio University.

Who are your favorite celebrities?

Angelina Jolie has used her fame and money for so many good causes. She is truly an icon when it comes to humanitarian and charitable causes.

Who are the most annoying celebrities?

The Kardashians have to be the most annoying celebrities. I guess I just don't understand what they have done to contribute to anything.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

I'm not a car person, so I'm happy as long as I have a decent vehicle that starts every morning.
