Students celebrate International Week with Global Scoop

What better way to celebrate International Week than with free ice cream?

Students gathered in the Baker Bobcat Lounge Tuesday afternoon to try a variety of ice cream flavors from all around the world.

“It’s better than an ice cream shop, not to mention I was the first in line,” said student Angelina Sakharovskaya as she enjoyed a bowl of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream topped with cherries and sprinkles.

Student director Nihal Said said that not only did the ice cream consist of American flavors, but also included Durian tropical fruit bars, known as the “king of fruit” from Southeast Asia, green tea bars, and Mochi ice cream, a Japanese confection made from mochi (pounded sticky rice) with an ice cream filling.

Students also had a choice of toppings such as chocolate chips, sprinkles, cherries, cookie chips and gummy bears.

The Global Scoop event was sponsored by the International Student Union, which serves as an umbrella organization for the University’s other diverse international student organizations. The event was part of International Week, and was created to give students an opportunity to try flavors of ice cream from around the world.

More events are planned as part of International Week, including a Talent Show reception Friday evening in Baker University Center, and the International Street Fair on Court Street Saturday afternoon.
