OHIO, local community celebrate International Women’s Day [PHOTO ESSAY]


Members of the Ohio University and Athens community gathered in the Baker University Center Ballroom on Sunday, March 16, to celebrate OHIO’s sixth annual International Women’s Day Festival.

Designed to celebrate the past, present and future accomplishments of women worldwide, the International Women’s Day Festival also serves as an opportunity to showcase OHIO and Athens’ diverse community and the talents of women in the community.

Here are some highlights from this year’s event:

IWDF-1

Susanne Dietzel, director of the Ohio University Women's Center, welcomes audience members to OHIO’s sixth annual International Women's Day Festival, which was held Sunday, March 16, in the Baker University Center Ballroom. Dietzel founded the festival, designed to educate the Athens Campus and local community about the progress women have made over the years, acknowledge the progress that is yet to be made, and celebrate the talents and diversity of women in the community.

Athens resident Lois Whealey was the first to take the stage at this year’s International Women’s Day Festival. Whealey spoke about women who were active in World War II.
