Great job Carlotta Hensler!

Meet the November 2013 Classified Employee of the Month

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Very surprised, I had a call from one of my co-workers to come to her office. She said she needed my assistance. I came through the stairwell door going to her office and there were all my co-workers waiting to congratulate me in the break room. It was a very nice surprise and also nice to see Patricia Palmer and Chris Bailey-Brown from Classified Senate.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I am a HR Records Specialist with University Human Resources and have been with UHR for seven years and the university for more than 13 years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

A portion of my position is working with employee leaves and knowing that I have assisted or given an employee who is going through a tough situation some piece of mind. It makes me feel good about what I do for UHR and Ohio University.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I have lived in McArthur, Ohio, for more than 44 years and call it home. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

What are your long-term goals?

I really don't have any long term goals except to live life day-by-day.

What was the last good book you read?

James Patterson's 'Second Honeymoon.' He is my favorite author.

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ___.

A cashier. My husband and I own a convenient store in McArthur and I would be assisting him in running our business more than I do now. I like working with the public and the community we live in.

Family, health friends and caring for our four- legged friends. We have three dogs, six horses and two miniature donkeys with one on the way.

Where is your favorite vacation destination and why?

Zaleski Horse Camp, we have met a lot of nice people there and it's close to our home and business.

What are your hobbies?

Horseback riding, flower gardening, mowing, working outdoors

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I can run a chain saw. My husband and I have been clearing our land, so I have learned to run the trimming chain saw while he cuts the trees up for firewood.

What are your favorite TV shows?

Blue Bloods, Blacklist, CSI Las Vegas and Duck Dynasty

Who are your favorite musicians?

Jon Bon Jovi and Def Leppard

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

Hoping our son finds a nice young lady and gets married.

Who are your favorite celebrities and why?

Tom Selleck and Sean Connery, they are both good all-around actors.

Who are the most annoying celebrities to you and why?

Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, they need a reality check.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

I actually have my dream car, a Cadillac Deville. A special friend of mine couldn’t drive her car anymore, so she sold it to me.

What is your favorite saying or quote?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
