From staff reports
American Electric Power (AEP) will perform maintenance to the powers lines that service Ohio University's Athens Campus beginning Oct. 7 and continuing through Oct. 9.
The maintenance is part of a larger overall program that began Oct. 1 and continues through December to re-build one of the circuits serving the Athens area.
While AEP is taking precautions to ensure uninterrupted power supply to campus, an outage is possible during this maintenance. A possible outage could mean only a flicker in electricity or a longer, more impacting outage.
The University community is asked to be aware of this maintenance and to exercise personal responsibility by backing up important files and unplugging unnecessary technology in advance of the scheduled maintenance.
Other best practices include:
Save your work often
Keep an eye on your laptop battery charge level
For desktop computers, use a battery backup (also known as a UPS). If the power goes out, a UPS will keep your computer running long enough for you to save your documents and shut your computer down gracefully.
Follow @OHIO_Compass for updates in the event inclement weather forces the work to be rescheduled.
