From staff reports
The Ohio University Office of Sustainability, in partnership with Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD), United Appeal and the Sugar Bush Foundation, will be offering free energy workshops and service learning experiences for OHIO and Hocking College classes on Oct. 1-2.
Sessions will take place at United Appeal (located on Richland Ave. in Athens) and will include a short lesson on sustainability, community engagement, sustainable business practices (regardless of discipline) and energy conservation.
Participants will then learn various energy conservation techniques from COAD through hands-on workshops on-site. Each presentation and/or workshop will be tailored to each class’ course objectives while still allowing for energy conservation services to be provided to United Appeal.
Workshops can occur throughout the day and will be scheduled according to interested faculty members' needs. Transportation to/from United Appeal/Athens campus will be provided by the Office of Sustainability (Regional Campuses and Hocking College participants can work with the office to create alternative transportation accommodations). All participants will leave the workshops with the tools and resources necessary to implement similar conservation projects in their own homes.
These sessions are ideal for all faculty members, whether or not they are active participants in OHIO’s Common Experience Project on Sustainability. If you are a faculty member interested in this opportunity, please complete the online interest form. You'll receive a personal follow-up email from the Office of Sustainability with more information and to schedule your class' workshop, if desired. Completion of this form does not commit you to any session. Though, faculty who complete the form will be given priority placement in sign-up.
Workshops are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited.
