Dean of students finalists announced

The screening committee for the position of associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students has announced three finalists who will visit campus in the coming weeks. The finalists for the position are:

Jennifer Hall-Jones – Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Ohio University

Greg MacVarish – Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Adler School of Professional Psychology

J. Malcolm Smith – Assistant Dean of Students, University of Illinois at Chicago

"We had a strong national pool of candidates, and these three rose to the top through the screening process," said Peter Trentacoste, executive director of Residential Housing and chair of the screening committee.

The campus visits will include several opportunities for broad input. Campus open forums will be conducted for each candidate and student-only conversations will take place as well. The schedules for each of the finalists are as follows:

Hall-Jones:

  • Students-only Conversation – Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in the Honors Collegium (Baker Center)
  • Campus Open Forum – Tuesday, April 9 at 11:15 a.m. in Baker Center 503

Smith:

  • Students-only Conversation – Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in the 1804 Lounge (Baker Center)
  • Campus Open Forum – Monday, April 15 at 11:15 a.m. in Baker Center 503

MacVarish:

  • Students-only Conversation – Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in 5th Floor Atrium (Baker Center)
  • Campus Open Forum – Tuesday, April 16 at 11:15 a.m. in Baker Center 503

Vice President for Student Affairs Ryan Lombardi encourages the campus community to attend the forums and provide feedback about the candidates.

"This is a critical position for our students and the campus community. Your feedback will directly assist in the selection of the next Dean of Students," Lombardi said. "I specifically ask that students engage broadly in this process, as this position represents you on a daily basis."

Following the visits, Lombardi will make a final decision on the hire after reviewing input from the screening committee and campus community. He hopes to make an offer before the end of the academic year.

Feedback forms will be available at the open forums.
