Alumni College deemed a Golden Weekend

Fifty Ohio University alumni and friends from around the nation convened in Athens July 19-22 for the 2012 Alumni College and Golden Weekend. The weekend was filled with classes, social events and catching up with fellow Bobcats.

Alumni had the opportunity to relive their college days by attending lectures delivered by OHIO professors in a variety of subject areas. Highlights included:

  • "Aircraft Navigation" with Thomas Professor of Electrical Engineering Michael Braasch

  • "Growth Hormone, Mini-Mice, Dirty Shorts, Football and a New Drug" with Distinguished Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology John Kopchick

  • "Critical Thinking and the Art of Playwriting" with Distinguished Professor of Playwriting Charles Smith

  • "College Drinking Culture" with Associate Professor of Sociology Thomas Vander Ven

Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis, First Lady Deborah McDavis, Executive Vice President and Provost Pamela Benoit and Vice President for University Advancement Bryan Benchoff also addressed the group at various events throughout the weekend, sharing University updates, points of pride and information on the Promise Lives Campaign.

The Golden Society Induction took place on Friday. Fifteen graduates from the Class of 1962 were pinned and inducted into the Golden Society following a dinner. A 1962 class photo was taken, as well as photos for other decades represented.

On Saturday at 18:04, six couples renewed their vows at the "OH, I dO" vow renewal ceremony at Konneker Alumni Center. One couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Other weekend events included a tour of campus, including a walking tour of College Green and the Baker University Center, a golf outing and the Ohio Valley Summer Theater's production of "Ragtime." After the performance, some of the cast climbed aboard the bus to thank the alumni for attending.

The weekend concluded with graduation, where the participants received certificates of completion and took a class photo of the Alumni College Class of 2012.

Attending alumni and friends hailed from as far as Texas, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Florida. To view photos of the weekend, visit ohioalumni.org/photos-events.
