Sign up for emergency text messages is quick, easy

With spring and summer comes the threat of severe weather. The Department of Risk Management and Safety wants to ensure that all Ohio University faculty and staff receive any emergency text messages.

"Ohio University implemented the Blackboard Connect notification system in late September," said Joe Adams, associate vice president for risk management and safety. "Contacts from the prior emergency text message system did not transfer over at that time. So, it is vital that all faculty and staff follow the step-by-step instructions on our website so they can be assured of receiving safety information in case dangerous conditions should arise on the Athens campus."

If Ohio University employees currently have a cellular phone number listed in their personal information, Blackboard Connect automatically will send emergency text messages to that designated number. However, if no phone number is designated as mobile or cellular no text message will be sent.

To ensure that you receive the most current emergency updates, take a moment to update your personal information. It can be done by following steps found at http://www.ohio.edu/riskandsafety/emergencyprograms/notification_system/index.htm.

"The University is committed to maintaining a safe environment for faculty, staff and students," said Adams. "If you work with students in any capacity, as an instructor, employer or mentor, urge them to visit our website to get information to ensure that they also receive emergency text message notifications."

Information for students to update their information can be found here.
