College of Fine Arts 75th Anniversary Celebration Performance is April 14

Ohio University’s College of Fine Arts is celebrating their 75th Anniversary this year and we want the OHIO community and their legions of alumni to be a part of it!

The celebration’s theme is "Inspiring Lives" and has been planned with alumni and friends in mind. The 75th Celebration Weekend will take place April 13-15 with open houses, receptions, performances and concerts.

The weekend events will culminate on Saturday night, April 14, beginning with the Celebration Procession at 7:30 p.m. where the College Green will come alive with open-air performances of dance, music, visual art and theatrical happenings. Following the Procession is the Celebration Performance in Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium at 8 p.m. The Celebration Performance will honor the College of Fine Arts faculty who have inspired the lives of their students and forever influenced the legacy of Ohio University.

Saturday’s program will showcase a mix of world-class performances of dance, film, theater and music. The performances will feature readings from the award winning play Marvin's Room, performance of Peter Jarjisian's choral piece “I Have a Dream” with Ohio University President Roderick McDavis, Mark Phillip's composition of “Dreams Interrupted” performed by the University orchestra, a film about Athens legend and arts professor Aethelred Eldridge, and a salute by world renowned visual artist Jenny Holzer. All of this will be topped off by a march-in performance by the Marching 110.

The evening will be hosted by acclaimed actress, and College of Fine Arts alumna, Vanessa Bell Calloway.

Calloway's work on stage, screen and television demonstrates her staying power. She is a favorite of audiences across the country and her work has garnered her eight NAACP Image Award nominations.

Calloway is currently back in production as Gail Strummer in her recurring role on TNT’s TV series Hawthorne RN, which earned her an eighth NAACP Image Award nomination. She was recently seen in John Wells’ new hour drama Shameless on Showtime as well as a guest-starring role in ABC’s Detroit 187. She recently guest starred on Showtime's Dexter as well as BET’s new situation comedy Let’s Stay Together and Tyler Perry’s House Of Payne.
 
She has appeared in such films as Lakeview Terrace, Love Don’t Cost A Thing, What's Love Got To Do With It, Coming to America, and Cheaper By The Dozen. Her television films include A Private Affair, Red Sneakers, Love Song, Memphis, The Cherokee Kid, Americas Dream: The Boy Who Painted Christ Black, and The Temptations, which earned her a fifth NAACP Image Award nomination. An accomplished dancer Calloway was in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls.

Calloway graduated from Ohio University in 1979 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance.

Community tickets are available for the Saturday evening Celebration Performance beginning on Monday, April 9 for $25 by contacting the Memorial Auditorium Ticket Office at (740) 593-1780. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
